Dr. Georgia Cua is a postdoctoral researcher with the earthquake statistics group at the SED. Her research interests lie in the area of real-time seismology, and include earthquake early warning, ShakeMap-type applications (http://www.shakemap.org), real-time impact and damage assessment, and ground motion attenuation relations. She developed the Virtual Seismologist (VS) method for earthquake early warning as part of her doctoral work with Thomas Heaton at the California Institute of Technology. She will be working with other members of the SED on 1) implementing VS early warning algorithms in Switzerland and Iceland as part of the SAFER project, 2) implementing ShakeMap-type applications in Switzerland, and 3) updating attenuation relationships for Switzerland. She is also actively collaborating with United States Geological Survey (USGS) on PAGER (Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response) and improving ground motion relations used by the ShakeMap software.
